Why a Dog Walker?

Few people have both the time and physical ability required to meet the needs of their dogs.

My belief is that an active life will greatly impact your dog's behaviour and ability to thrive as a member of your household.

Regular exercise can also prevent a long list of health problems.

Benefits For Your Dog Include:

Reduced loneliness during the day.

Mental stimulation.

Improved behaviour (less chewing, accidents, barking, etc.)

Reduced aggression.

Improved physical health.

Peace of mind for busy dog owners.

Happy Dog! (Is there anything better??)

Hi, my name is Ted and if you're looking for a caring and compassionate Dog Walker for your furry friend in Ottawa, look no further. I'll take care of your beloved pet as if it were my own - with love, kindness and endless patience. I love dogs and I love walking, so you can be sure your pet will not just get some great exercise but will have lots of fun as well!

From earliest childhood I've been surrounded by all manner of pets - dogs, cats, birds, rabbits and fish. I grew up in an animal loving environment and that tradition has carried on throughout my adulthood. I know very well how important your pet is to you and will always exercise the utmost vigilance to ensure that your pet is always safe and kept from harm.

Keep your dog (or dogs) happy and healthy while you're busy or away from home with regular dog walks. My dog walking service can be an affordable way to make sure your pets don't destroy your house or get lonely during long workdays, or when you can't walk them because of family or mobility issues. My dog walking service is available for dogs of any age, from puppies to senior dogs, or any size.

Dog walks can be a 30 or 60 minute stroll around your neighbourhood or I can pick up your dog (or dogs) at their home (whether you are home or not) and drive them to a dog park for a good two hour romp and then return them home. There are several good fenced and unfenced, on or off-leash parks in the Ottawa area where your dog (or dogs) can interact with other dogs to help with your pet's socialization skills while also fighting off loneliness. My fees will vary depending on the type of service you require but you can click on to get a general idea of what those fees might be. Keep in mind that these prices are just a general guide as there can be variations depending on your needs that we can come to an agreement on.

I have included a list of many of thein the Ottawa area. Please feel free to browse through them.

If you have one or more cats that need to be taken care of I can come by and feed them, clean the litter box and spend an hour keeping them company and playing with them if they are so inclined. Cats will be cats after all. My fees will vary depending on the type of service you require but you can click on to get a general idea of what those fees might be. Keep in mind that these prices are just a general guide as there can be variations depending on your needs that we can come to an agreement on.

I also offer a variety of such as taking your pet to the vet or cleaning up the poop in your backyard. In the event that you may be away from home for a while or are physically incapacitated I can also feed your pets, water the plants, bring in the mail, etc. There are no set fees for these services but it will vary depending on the amount of time needed to fulfill any services required.

I have also included short answers to many of the most . Please feel free to browse through them.

I've also included a page on my website on general that you may find informative or interesting.

On a lighter note I've put together a page with which might give you a chuckle. If any of the images are too small to read easily just click on them to see a larger version.

Feel free to me with any questions you might have or to set up an appointment for an interview. I look forward to hearing from you.

Dog Walking Fees

The following is intended solely as a general guide but obviously there can be a great many variations to a dog walking schedule and I am always willing to try and accomodate your needs as best I can.

Twenty or more 30-minute neighborhood walks per month: $20 per walk

Twenty or more 60-minute neighbourhood walks per month: $30.00 per walk.

Pickup and Drop-Off for an outing to a Dog Park - If you'd like your dog (or dogs) to get a lot of exercise, you're not limited to me just walking your dog (or dogs) around the neighbourhood. I will pick up your pet and take him/her to a fenced or unfenced off-leash park, as per your preference, for a good 2 hour romp and then drop him/her home.

The pickup and drop-off cost for multiple visits to a dog park every month (15 or more) would be $50.00 per trip.

Sometimes our furry friends prefer one-on-one time with a caring human. This is a great option for dogs who have a tendency to act nervous, aggressive, or are overly playful around other dogs or who simply require one-on-one attention and control.

Private visits begin and end at your home and you can decide how you want us to conduct each visit (i.e. time spent walking versus playing in the backyard, cuddling, feeding, etc.).

The fee for an hour long visit would be $30.

There would be an additional charge for my services for each additional dog, 2 or more, depending on the circumstances.

Feel free to me with any questions you might have or to set up an appointment for an interview. I look forward to hearing from you.

UNFENCED DOG PARKS IN OTTAWA

For many owners and their dogs, nothing beats a great off leash dog park for a fun day out. Whether you're looking for a big open space to play fetch, some sand to dig in, forested trees to explore or water to cool down in on those hot summer days, you'll find what you're looking for here in Ottawa. Off leash dog parks can be a great way to give your pup some freedom to burn off some energy, while you enjoy the beauty of nature.

STANLEY PARK (IN OTTAWA!)

183 Stanley Ave, Ottawa, ON K1M 1P2

Someone laughed and told me this was in Vancouver when I suggested they check \"Stanley Park\" out, but there's also one in Ottawa! It's a small park and there's some construction going on but in the summer there's access to the water for the pups to cool down and splash around. Maybe you'll get lucky and see some swans there too. There's lots of parking on Stanley Ave or in the residential streets North East of the park. It also leads to great walking trails along the River. Head North West from the park to walk along the pretty Union Street bridge to both Maple Island and Green Island. From there you can walk to Bordeleau Park, which brings us to the next off-leash area.

Bordeleau Park

349 Bruyere St, Ottawa, ON K1N 5G9

Although this park is close to King Edward it is in a quiet neighbourhood and you can allow your dog run off leash without being afraid of them straying into traffic. If you have a water-loving dog, they won't want to head towards the busy street because they'll be too busy swimming in the Rideau River. There's street parking on Cathart that runs along the park but please make sure your pup has great recall or keep them on leash until you reach the walking path parallel to the river to avoid squirrel chasing towards King Edward.

Brewer Pond Dog Park

100 Brewer Way, Ottawa, ON K1S 5T1

This is a municipal park situated on the north bank of the Rideau River and just across from Carleton University. It is a kid's paradise with many thrilling facilities for play and soccer fields, a hockey arena and many biking paths among other facilities which will appeal to adults. Dogs are only allowed off-leash in the south of the berm, in the parking lot and from Cameron Street towards the Rideau River.

Apollo Crater Park

600 Apollo Way, Ottawa, ON K1E 3B5

This is an off-leash Dog area managed by the city of Ottawa and comes with no fees. The park is spread across 1.28 km of well-mowed lawns with trees planted on the sides. So, your dog will have ample space to play. You will meet friendly dog owners and possibly not only your dog will get to socialise. I think this may be named after an impact crater on the moon, the bowl-shaped cavity in the ground is grassed where dogs can wrestle around, or follow their humans around the path that circles it. There are some trees to provide some shaded areas here as well. Look at how happy that dog is to be there!

THE EXPERIMENTAL FARM

72 Arboretum, Ottawa, ON K1A 0C6

The Central Experimental Farm was originally created in a bid to solve farm production related issues. In present times, its major attractions include the Arboretum, the Ornamental Gardens, and the Tropical Greenhouse. It has become a tourist site where people come to observe the plants and animals. Dogs are only permitted on-leash in the Arboretum, the Fletcher Wildlife Gardens and the lanes alongside the farm fields.

FENCED DOG PARKS IN OTTAWA

Having your dog off-leash is a great way to exercise and socialize your dog, but for some owners it can be quite nerve-racking to be in an open area without fences! If your dog is not great at coming to you when you call them, or they are still young and learning, fenced dog parks can be a great place to work on recall without worrying about your dog taking off. Here are the best fenced dog parks in and around Ottawa, Ontario.

SHEFFORD ROAD DOG PARK

849 Shefford Rd, Gloucester, ON K1J 8H9

Ottawa's newest fenced dog park - it's partially grass and partially gravel and seems to be well maintained. The park also has a special waste receptacle, which sees waste slide down a chute and into the ground to cut down on smell and to prevent overflowing.

HAMPTON PARK DOG RUN

512 Island Park Dr, Ottawa, ON K1Y 0B4

Just off of Island Park Dr, there is a fully fenced portion of of Hampton Park. If you park off of Island Park Dr, you can walk towards the 417 Hwy to reach the fenced in area of the dog park, or you can park at Pet Value (1309 Carling Ave) and walk under the 417 to access the dog run.

Landsdowne Dog Park

1525 Princess Patricia Way, Ottawa, ON K1S 3W7

If you want your dog to learn some socializing skills, Landsdowne Dog Park is a great place to start. It is a fenced area where you can set your dog off-leash only on the dog run area. Lansdowne Dog Park is a small but beautiful park close to the Rideau canal and the many shops and restaurants of Lansdowne. It's very well kept and seems like there is an endless supply of water for the pups on a hot day. Head here on Sunday's year-round for the Lansdowne Farme's Market at Aberdeen square and you can browse vendors that grow, make, and bake everything that they offer from within 100 km of the City of Ottawa. You can get your favourite local grains, meats, cheeses, fruits and veggies, locally produced baked goods and sweets, as well as exceptional artisan crafts and jewelry year round at our Lansdowne location. Most importantly, dogs are welcome!

JACK PURCELL DOG PARK

320 Jack Purcell Lane, Ottawa, ON K2P 2J5

If you want a more controlled space for your dog to run off leash his is a small, fenced downtown dog park where you can almost always find a handful of dogs playing. There are shades and benches where you can sit and a fountain which includes a water bowl for your dog. The ground is covered in smooth gravel that is easy on paws and is great for running and keeping your dog clean. This isn't a great place if you just want to play with your own dog, though, since three or four dogs are likely to dash for any ball you throw. The entrances to the dog run are on Frank Street between Elgin and Metcalfe. Note that Frank Street is one-way westbound, so enter it from Elgin Street.

Lemieux Island

1 Onigam St, Ottawa, ON K1Y 2C4

JLemieux Island is a small island in the middle of the Ottawa River in the National Capital Region of Canada. The island lies between Gatineau, Quebec and Ottawa, Ontario. Although it is not technically fenced in, I decided to include it anyway since it's an island so it's pretty secure. It also has tons of river access for those who love to swim or wade in just to cool off. It's quite large with shady spots for a nice afternoon in the sun!

TECH WALL DOG PARK

551-575 Laurier Ave W, Ottawa, ON K1R 5Y9

Probably one of the coolest looking backgrounds (it's an art graffiti wall), but it's also probably the smallest park on my list. Great for Instagram dogs though! It has a mix of grass and concrete, trees surround it for some shade and it's perfect if this is on your way to work or errands or if you live nearby!

Dog walking requirements.

All dogs must be up to date with vaccinations including Rabies, DHPP, and Tick and Flea Prevention.

Your dog must have basic obedience skills.

Completion of a Meet and Great temperament assessment. During our initial meet and greet consultation we will discuss your needs and assess your dog's behaviour in order to determine the right service for your dog.

Our mission is to help you rest assured that your dog's daily needs are being met.

Off-Leash dog walks

It is hard to overstate the amount of joy that is experienced by dogs while they run free and play with their buddies. In many cases this kind of exercise and socialization is exactly what a well-balanced dog needs.

The adventure starts when your dog is picked up from your home and transported along with 1-3 other pack members to the nearest dog-friendly park. Then your dog will spend the next 2 hours walking, running, and playing with his/her friends in the great outdoors.

Treats and water will be provided during the outing. After the walk your dog will be returned home tired, comfortable, hydrated, and happy.

In order to qualify for OLPWs your dog must have recent off-leash experience at dog parks, good recall, and no history of aggression.

Do you walk in the rain or snow?

Yes! Generally, if the weather is safe for dogs I am good to go! If the roads are drivable and your house is accessible, I will be there.

If you have a short haired, small, or older dog I may suggest that you supply them with appropriate clothing and boots to allow them a comfortable walk.

If your dog is not suitable for the weather conditions I reserve the right to cancel the scheduled walk due to animal safety.

How many dogs are included in a pack walk?

I walk up to a maximum of 4 dogs depending on your dog's individual temperament and energy requirements. Size and energy can be a determining factor.

Will my dog get dirty on walks?

Yes! Sometimes we get dirty! Especially if you have a longer haired dog or when we go on pack walks where we hit the trails.

I towel dry each dog as best I can after each walk before drop off. Doodles, Huskies and fluffy dogs alike are more difficult for me to get clean.

If you are not home for the drop off I suggest you consider a closed off area, crate or pen so your dog can safely dry out without staining the carpet!

When won't you walk my dog?

I reserve the right to refuse service to any pet for any reason including, without limitation, if it appears that the pet is sick, injured, in pain, or that its behaviour could jeopardize the health and safety of other pets. This includes lack of restraint, aggression or if their walking habits are unmanageable.

Can you walk my dog at the exact time each day?

Scheduling and availability are two factors that can dictate whether I can walk your dog the same time every day. You can set up a reoccurring schedule in my system but I do ask for a little flexibility in scheduling.

Various factors can affect ny arrival time such as weather conditions, traffic, or delays in cleaning off my previous four legged clients!

I ask for a 2 hour window of flexibility around your appointment. For example if you are booked for 11am I potentially could arrive at 10am or 12pm due to traffic or other circumstances.

When does the clock start for my dog's walk?

For neighbourhood walks your time starts when we leave your house and start the walk.

For two hour romps at the park your time starts when we arrive at the park and start the walk.

For factors out of my control, if I notice that your dog is no longer enjoying his or her walk due to extreme weather (hot or cold), energy level or illness I will head home earlier than planned.

I have two dogs, what is the cost of the second?

We love dog duos! The second dog is 50% off.

Private Visits

Sometimes our furry friends prefer one-on-one time with a caring human. This is a great option for dogs who have a tendency to act nervous, aggressive, or are overly playful around other dogs or who simply require one-on-one attention and control.

Private visits begin and end at your home and you can decide how you want us to conduct each visit (i.e. time spent walking versus playing in the backyard, cuddling, feeding, etc.).

Puppy Visits

Do you have a little puppy who needs attention during the day but isn't quite ready for longer walks? If so, I would be more than happy to visit your puppy and take care of any of his/her needs along with an abundance of affection and cuddling.

When do I Pay? How do I pay?

Prepayment is mandatory and can be made by cash or cheque.

When should you schedule?

It is recommended to establish a regular schedule for your dog. This will allow myself and your dog to get into a routine while also ensuring I have you in the calendar!

I do require a minimum of 24 hours advance notice to guarantee accommodation. Please be mindful of this in the event that you need to make changes to your schedule.

What if I need to cancel my walk?

Walks must be canceled by 5pm a day prior to the scheduled walk to qualify for a refund.

How do you collect my dog if I am not home?

Access to your house will be arranged in our initial consultion. Options are a FOB, key, security codes OR a Lockbox.

If I arrive and I cannot get access to your pet I will try to contact you and wait for 10 minutes before leaving. Scheduled visits without access are non refundable.
